It will mean a trip back to California for Bowyer, a native of Aliso Viejo who is busy at the U.S. Under-23 National Team camp in Carson City. A 2009 NSCAA third-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten selection, Bowyer helped lead Ohio State women’s soccer team to the NCAA tournament and a ranking as high as No. 11 nationally, scoring four goals and dishing out five assists in 2009. The two-year captain started 82 career games, fourth-most all-time at Ohio State, and ranks fifth on the career assists list with 16. Last week, Bowyer received her third Academic All-Big Ten award.
"I’m very excited to be back playing in California, even if it is a few hours away," Bowyer said with a laugh. "This is a great opportunity for me and it’s an honor to be drafted."
Robertson will be headed to play for the D.C. Freedom, a 2009 WPS playoff team. A third-team All-Great Lakes Region and second-team All-Big Ten selection, Robertson posted one of the most dominant seasons in program history in 2009, recording an Ohio State record 12 shutouts and a 0.63 goals-against average, the second-best ever. The 29 career shutouts posted by the Mission Viejo, Calif., native are the most ever at Ohio State and second-most all-time in Big Ten history. Taz’s career goals-against average of 1.03 ranks second at Ohio State and her 283 career saves are the third-most in program history.
"It is definitely one of the happiest moments of my life," Robertson said. "This is a dream come true and the fact that it has come true is unreal. I’m looking forward to getting started."
Training camp will begin in March for both teams.
