Horner on Big Ten All-Freshman Squad; Thomas Also Honored
November 5, 2008

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Freshman Natalie Horner (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington, OHIO PREMIER SOCCER CLUB) of the University of Michigan women's soccer team was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team, the conference announced today (Wednesday, Nov. 5). Senior Kristin Thomas (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) also was honored as U-M's Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Horner started all 19 games during her rookie campaign, spending time in the midfield and at forward. She shared the team lead for goals by a freshman with two scores. She netted her first career marker, a game-winner, as part of a two-goal game against Oakland (Sept. 11). Horner was second on the team in shots with 27, including 14 on goal.

Thomas co-captained a young team in the transition to a new coaching staff. Her leadership on and off the field helped the Wolverines surpass their win total of a year ago. Thomas is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and three-time U-M Athletic Academic Achievement award recipient.

Thomas is now a candidate for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The conference office will honor one male and one female student-athlete from each institution at the end of the academic year.

Horner is the 10th Wolverine to be named to the All-Freshman team, joining 2007 honorees Amanda Bowery (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) and Jackie Carron (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester).

OAC Names Rudibaugh Player of the Week
Written Nov. 3, 2008 by Adam Prescott

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – Otterbein sophomore forward Lindsey Rudibaugh (Dublin/Coffman) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

With the Cardinals needing two wins this past week to win the OAC regular season championship, Rudibaugh helped the team do just that.  On Wednesday, she scored two second half goals in a 2-0 victory over Muskingum as Otterbein took over the top spot in the conference.  On Saturday, Rudibaugh scored the game’s only goal in a 1-0 victory over rival Capital. The win clinched the regular season title and gave the Cards the #1 seed in this week’s conference tournament.

Rudibaugh has started all 17 games this season and ranks in the top ten in the conference in points (18), goals scored (8), and shots (57).

Carusillo Tabbed Brine-Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week

Noelle Carusillo was tabbed MVC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals and registering two assists against Oakland City.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Noelle Carusillo, a junior midfielder from Dublin, Ohio, and an Ohio Premier Girls Soccer Club grad,  had a career game against Oakland City on October 12 as she tallied six total points to tie Indiana State’s all-time record for most points in a single game set back in 2004.  Due to her outstanding performance, Carusillo was named the week’s Brine-Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week as released by the MVC on Monday, October 13.

Carusillo scored the second and last goal in a 9-0 win over the Lady Oaks and assisted on two others.  Her six points in a single game is more than what she had in the past two seasons combined.  Carusillo took five shots in the game, three of which were on goal in 90 minutes played.

Carusillo’s first goal came when she hit a rocket of a shot from just outside the top center of the 18 yard box.  It was her first goal of the season and third of her career.

The next goal came when she freed herself from Lady Oak defenders and took an unassisted shot from the middle of the 18 yard box that was perfectly placed in the back of the net.

Carusillo has played in every game this season and currently leads the Sycamores in total points.

This is Carusillo’s first-ever MVC Player of the Week award and the first for the Sycamore team this season.
